Each Abel Board is handcrafted in our small shop in rural DeSoto Kansas.

The material is a nonporous kitchen countertop material known as ‘solid surface material’.  This means that it is the same material throughout its thickness so a scratch can be buffed out.  We recommend using a pad between our boards and hot serving dishes over 300°F to prevent possible discoloration from extended excessive heat.  Harsh cleaners should be avoided.  Soap and water are all you need.  Abel Boards are dishwasher safe for your convenience.

We know you will enjoy the quality and beauty of Abel Boards for years to come.

Payment: We accept cash and major debit or credit cards.

You’ve come to the right place….

Abel Boards has new owners with the same great products!

Our History

Dave Abel Boards was started in 1995 by Dave Abel and his wife Susan in Merriam Kansas a suburb of Kansas City. For years, Dave’s hobby of woodworking allowed him to make many unique products from a variety of wood types.  However, as he began to think about other types of materials he could use, he discovered a popular solid surface product used in countertop construction called Corian® a product developed by DuPont.  While working together in their home shop, Dave and Susan realized the benefits of this material which is nonabsorbent and dishwasher safe. Scratches and knife marks that occur over time can be polished out to bring back the original smooth surface. This solid surface material was a great material for milling with woodworking tools and soon several cutting boards were produced. Friends and family were the first to see the beauty and functionality of the boards. Often, they not only wanted a single board, but several in varying shapes, sizes and designs.  Sales of boards spread by word of mouth. Soon they were offered at craft shows and selected retail stores.

Abel Boards continues through Curtis and Kathy Arnold in DeSoto Kansas.

After Dave’s passing, Susan sold the company to Kairos Investments. Then, in 2022, Curtis and Kathy purchased the company as a business opportunity–since they both had recently retired.  The original name of the company and many of the same products that Dave and Susan originally developed have been kept.
